Cincinnati Enquirer - Grant Helps Music Program

A $45,000 grant from the Charles H. Dater Foundation will help specialists use music to motivate babies who are blind or visually impaired move towards sounds through a music program at the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually impaired.

The program is the agency’s Early Childhood and Youth Services Music Program.

The program helps parents learn to interact with their babies in ways that promote use of remaining vision and developmental skills.

John Mitchell, association executive director, said the music program children as well as adultswhose lives are greatly enhanced through musical expression, interaction and education.

“For infants or children who are blind or visually impaired, music is an important tool in encouraging and teaching new skills, self-esteem, and personal and developmental growth,” Mitchell said.
