The Butler Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (BPYO) is an extension of the Butler Philharmonic Orchestra, which believes that arts education is an essential and fundamental necessity for student development. The BPYO is dedicated to providing young musicians with an exceptional musical training environment.  Performing three concerts per season, the youth orchestra frequently collaborates with local and regional agents to provide powerful and meaningful performances. 

Grants made in November:

Baker Hunt Art and Cultural Center, $35,000.  Community outreach programs provide art making opportunities and positive outlets to youth after school and at summer art camp.

Butler Philharmonic, $25,000.  See above description.

Dragonfly Foundation, $30,000.  Support for pediatric cancer patients and their families visiting Cincinnati Children’s features activity programs/events like the annual Christmas Party and family-oriented excursions to Great American Ballpark, Kings Island, the Cincinnati Zoo, the Newport Aquarium and other locations.

Forever Kings, $20,000.  The Boyz II Kings program is a community-based afterschool program that takes young men of color in grades 4th -12th on a nine-month journey of self-reflection and self-visualization while creating a culture of brotherhood.

Guiding Light Mentoring, $20,000.  The Youth Education and Wellness Program is designed to empower underserved youth by pairing them with dedicated mentors who provide both academic support and personal development opportunities.

La Soupe, $50,000.  The Rescue/Transform/Share program rescues perishable food from restaurants and stores where it is transformed into meals by staff and volunteers and then distributed through a network of over 100 agencies, schools, senior centers, churches, food pantries and other nonprofits helping those in need. 

St. Vincent de Paul - Northern Kentucky, $30,000. The Sweet Dreams Bed Program follows up in-home visits by volunteers and provides a twin bed to about 600 economically disadvantaged children and youth.

Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, $35,000.  Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank partners with local social service agencies to provide free diapers to low-income families while raising awareness of the basic health need for diapers. The vision is to eliminate the existence of diaper need y so that all babies have a chance to be healthy, happy, and safe.

University of Cincinnati Foundation - Greater Cincinnati Stem Collaborative, $25,000.  See above as well.  Two after-school programs – 3d Printers Club and STEM Bicycle Clubs – meet weekly during the school year with the goal of developing and expanding students’ interest in STEM fields. 

The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs.  Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.  The foundation has made more than 3,800 grants totaling over $79 million since its inception in 1985.
