Dater Foundation makes 141 grants totaling $5 million in fiscal year 2023-24

Cincinnati, Ohio, September 9, 2024 -- The Charles H. Dater Foundation ended its 2023-24 fiscal year at the end of August having made 141 grants totaling $5,080,128. Since its inception in 1985 the foundation has made 3,773 grants totaling $77,316,446.
The two largest grants in 2023-24 were: $250,000 to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation for its Learning Links and Summertime Kids mini-grant program and a capital grant of $200,000 to Children’s Theatre as part of a $450,000 commitment for programmatic expansion and the acquisition and renovation of the historic Emery Theatre in Over the Rhine.
The average grant was $36,029 and the median grant was $30,000.

The foundation made two grants in August:
Alliance for Catholic Urban Education, $10,128. Update of the lighting systems at four of the five ACUE schools.
Junior Achievement of OKI Partners, $25,000. Adult volunteers participate in training and then take Junior Achievement’s time-tested financial and life success programs into classrooms, working with teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools to reach nearly 40,000 students in Greater Cincinnati with financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship education.
The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs. The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.
