Schooled on Freedom provides free admission to the Freedom Center for 4th-12th grade students at qualifying Title I schools. The program offers experiential learning tours of the museum combined with a grade-specific curriculum aligned with state and national education standards, making history accessible to all students regardless of socioeconomic status.

Grants made in June:

Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, $25,000.  Early Childhood and Youth Services Music Program, including the Annual Music Recital and partial support of two music specialists.

Cincinnati Opera, $25,000.  The Opera’s education and outreach features programs that impact more than 3,000 PreK-12 students annually at Music Hall, at school assemblies and in individual classrooms.

Citylink Center, $25,000.  Every Mother’s Advocate is a nationally tested and proven program that supports at-risk mothers and helps them retain their families.

Comprehensive Community Child Care, $20,000.  The Child Care Teacher Advancement project supports 1,000 early childhood educators with their pursuit of continuing education and training to meet state requirements and work toward career goals. 

Junior Achievement of OKI Partners, $25,000.  Adult volunteers participate in training and then take Junior Achievement’s time-tested financial and life success programs into classrooms, working with teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools to reach nearly 40,000 students in Greater Cincinnati with financial literacy and career readiness education. 

National Underground Railroad freedom Center, $25,000.  Schooled on Freedom provides free admission to the Freedom Center for 4th-12th grade students at qualifying Title I schools. 

President Drive Church of Christ (Faith Alliance), $20,000.  The Faith Alliance’s Day of Hope 2023 will continue the tradition of a community celebration for young people as they return to school, providing them with supplies, mental and physical health needs, and other resources.

School House Symphony, $30,000.  Teaching Tomorrow’s Audience Today brings over 250 live musical performances by members of a six-person ensemble to 80 schools and 20,000 children throughout Greater Cincinnati.  Fees are kept low through contributions and grants, and part of the Dater grant funds programs at underserved inner-city schools.  If Covid-19 restrictions are in place, e live virtual programming is an alternative.

The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs.  Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.  The foundation has made more than 3,500 grants totaling over $71 million since its inception in 1985.
