As the region’s largest cultural institution, CMC is committed to improving the quality of life for children in the tristate by providing memorable museum and educational experiences. With the COVID-19 crisis still at the forefront, CMC has adjusted its operations in order to deliver educational programming digitally while also enhancing on-site museum exhibits to fuel critical thinking, collaboration and creativity.  Programs advance STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) and STEAM (STEM+Art) education

Grants made in January:

Boys Hope Girls Hope, $25,000.  A tutor and scholar support program guides underserved students with high potential through high school and the college preparatory process.

Cincinnati Museum Center, $30,000.  The Children’s Museum fuels children’s love of learning and serves young people and families with exciting, educational and age-appropriate programming throughout the year.  Reduced on-site activities and programs due to Covid-19 restrictions  are supplemented with creative virtual offerings available to a broad community audience.  

Mayerson Academy, $25,000.  Specialized multisensory structed language training for teachers includes one-on-one tutoring to help dyslexic children in grades K-3 with reading, writing and spelling.  Teachers take their new knowledge back to their classroom, benefiting their students throughout the school year.

Notre Dame Urban Education Center, $25,000.  A new early learning program addresses pre-reading and kindergarten readiness skills among underserved children in Covington.

Stepping Stones, $30,000.  Saturday Kids Club provides extracurricular activities for children ages five to 16 whose disabilities prevent them from participating fully in typical after-school activities, and Saturday Young Adults offers late-afternoon and early evening social opportunities for similarly disabled young people.  Additional sessions have been added to offset participation restrictions as a result of Covid-19.

The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs.  Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.  The foundation has made more than 3,300 grants totaling over $57 million since its inception in 1985.
