Cincinnati, Ohio, April 6, 2020 – The Charles H. Dater Foundation awarded 16 grants totaling $560,000 in March, including $250,000 to the Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s COVID-19 Regional Response Fund and special grants of $25,000 to 11 current Dater grantees who provide services that are in high demand as a result of the impact of the Coronavirus.

The COVID-19 special grant recipients are Bethany House Services, BLOC Ministries, Childhood Food Solutions, City Gospel Mission, Freestore Foodbank, Horizon Community Fund of Northern Kentucky, Inter Parish Ministry, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Our Daily Bread, St. Vincent de Paul/Cincinnati, and St. Vincent de Paul/Covington.

In addition, four grant applications for specific programs were approved, but recipients were told repurposing the dollars for Covid-19 relief efforts was permissible:

Lighthouse Youth & Family Services, 25,000.  Life skills training is a major component of the program KEYS to a Future Without Youth Homelessness.

Lydia’s House, $25,000.  Homeless women with children in transitional housing learn the importance of nutrition regarding health and physical development.

Over The Rhine Kitchen, $20,000.  Project Serve My Neighbor will expand its food service to include a Friday evening Family Night meal to encourage parents to attend with their children.

YWCA of Greater Cincinnati, $25,000.  The Domestic Violence Shelter Program provides safe, secure and emergency shelter to children and youth forced to flee their homes due to life-threatening abuse.

The Dater Foundation makes grants to non-profit organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area to carry out programs that benefit young people and focus in the areas of arts/culture, education, healthcare, social services and other community needs.  Information about the grantmaking process and guidelines and links to an online grant application website are available at www.DaterFoundation.org.

The private foundation was established by fourth-generation Cincinnatian, businessman and philanthropist Charles Dater (1912-1993) to ensure that his resources would continue to fund worthwhile community programs after his death.  The foundation has made more than 3,200 grants totaling over $53 million since its inception in 1985.
