The Dater Foundation extends congratulations to the 43 teenagers who successfully completed a five-day, four-night 75-mile river journey as part of the Cincinnati Recreation Commission's annual RiverTrek program.

They started their journey in Oregonia, Ohio on Monday morning, July 27 and wrapped up their paddling at Downtown Cincinnati’s Public Landing on Friday afternoon July 31. This was the 19th year Cincinnati Recreation Commission offered the RiverTrek experience to Cincinnati teens.

RiverTrek is a week-long summer program of self-discovery designed to enhance the confidence, understanding and leadership skills of Cincinnati area youth and youth-at-risk.  With emphasis on canoeing, kayaking, camping, first-aid and team building skills, about the teens traveled down the Little Miami River, focusing on the environment, wildlife habitat and water quality.  A goal is that they re-envision themselves on neutral turf, away from the normal influences of their personal environment, so that they can practice making different choices in their lives while they are exposed to the natural world surrounding them.  Veteran participants serve as Peer Leaders for RiverTrek. A Dater Foundation grant of $10,000 supported the program, and other supporters supplied many in-kind resources.
