Kreative Kids - Children's Cancer Support Programs

Grant Application:

To continue the progress that has been made on the children's cancer programs which provide critical support to children and youth in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region to restore hope and improve the lives of those touched by cancer.

Goals:
The goals for the children's support programs are to increase the number of children and families participating in CSC programming, to educate and empower children and adolescents with age-appropriate information about cancer and lastly to reduce isolation by providing a sustaining community of support through local Cancer Support.

Grant Evaluation Report:

Although our in-person participation numbers for the Children’s Cancer Support Program were not as high as the previous year, our success has been measured by the satisfaction of our participants and their families. We continue to reach families both in-person and virtually. Overall program evaluation for these activities showed a high level of satisfaction.

Results:

The Children’s Cancer Support Program served just under 100 families through the program with 182 family events. In-person visits remained high with over 3,000 virtual visits to various professionally facilitated programming. We maintained programming options which was created to build connection, communication and reduce distress and isolation. Families had the ability to continue to receive materials for all the activities via mail, porch pickup and/or dropped off to their homes or the option to participate in-person. Programming was conducted via zoom and in-person (social distanced and masked). A creation of our own YouTube channel gave families access to some of our programming if they were not able to log on when it was originally happening. Results of surveys indicated that 92% of children better understood their feelings about cancer, increased their knowledge of cancer and leaned new coping techniques to deal with stress and anxiety.
Results continued to vary to due Covid-related concerns; however, we were still able to provide the continuity of our programming by offering several participation options.
