School Programming and Community Outreach Programs Grant Application:

At First Tee – GCNKY, we are making the turn from a year disrupted by COVID into a year that we plan to reach more children through our School Programming and Community Outreach opportunities than ever before. In the 2021-2022 school year, our goal is to ensure that the schools in our network are delivering services consistently, as we fulfill program expansion with Boone County schools and grow into Butler and Warren county schools in Ohio. As we turn this bend, we now request support of $20,000 to support our Community and School programming for children, many of whom are underserved, that addresses children’s needs for physical activity and social-emotional learning by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices. The Charles H. Dater Foundation's past support has helped First Tee – GCNKY meet kids where they are when they are not able to access our golf courses, and your ongoing support of First Tee - GCNKY will allow us to serve thousands of children while expanding our reach into more schools.

Goals/Objectives:
-Reach more children through our School Programming and Community Outreach opportunities than ever before.
- Ensure that the schools in our network are delivering services consistently, as we fulfill program expansion with Boone County schools and grow into Butler and Warren county schools in Ohio
-Expand the First Tee school program to reach 30,000 students, add 10 new school partners, and increase the number of Title 1 schools that we partner with, which will allow us to reach more diverse and low income students.

Grant Evaluation Report:

Our Chapter was able to make great strides in serving children and youth through our community outreach programming, and school programming in 2022.

Our 2022/23 School program has been a big success thus far. While the school year is ongoing, we can report on the results we have seen so far, as well as the end results of the 21/22 school year.

We were thrilled to go from 10 active delivery partners in the 20/21 school year to 38 during the 2021/2022 school year!

Our first targeted attempt to transition school participants into our green grass programs has been a success. Our green grass program allows students in the school program to utilize the golf skills they have learned throughout the program on an actual golf course through a field day or clinic. Upon seeing the initial success of transitioning schools to green grass programs, In the future we plan to transition more area schools and community programs to participate in green grass programs. The green grass programs are also an excellent tool for recruiting new students for our golf course program.

In addition, we were thrilled to have two new Title 1 schools sign agreements to deliver the program and have three more set to sign on during the 22-23 school year. This will allow us to deepen our reach into low income communities, a demographic that is extremely underrepresented in the game of golf.

A final highlight of the success of our school program has been our growth into special needs programs and schools.

We attribute the success of our School Program to the work of our school coordinator, Wendy Mockabee in thoroughly training PE teachers at our partner schools on the First Tee curriculum. We also attribute the success to the incredible PE teachers at our partner schools who have demonstrated willingness and excitement to implement the First Tee curriculum. Our school program is thoughtfully designed to be engaging for kids of all ages, and align with national PE standards.

We were able to reach 18,000 students through our overall school programming during the 21-22 school year, far exceeding our expectations!.

We were also thrilled with the results from our 2022 Community program! We attribute this success to our Golf Course Program Director, Ben Walker. Ben has worked to transform the CRC community golf days to be more accessible to all youth by expanding the program to offer sessions for the teen age group, and increasing enrollment by more than 80 youth from the previous year.

In all we were able to exceed our enrollment goal for 2022, impacting 186 youth total through CRC Community Golf Days with CRC and TYJGA.
