Community Education Program
The Epilepsy Alliance’s mission is to support those impacted by epilepsy in local communities by confronting the spectrum of challenges created by seizures. One of the ways this is accomplished is through a community education program, which provides unique, multi-faceted educational programs including seizure recognition and first aid training. Different curriculums are offered for different audiences. There is in-school training for school personnel as well as students. For younger audiences, an educational puppetry presentation is impactful. Online and Facebook Live trainings are also available. The support of a Dater Foundation grant helps make these trainings free of charge. The impact of the community education program can be seen through pre/post tests measuring epilepsy knowledge learned. In 2018, 88% of students showed an increase in epilepsy knowledge after one educational presentations. In 2018, epilepsy education was provided to 2,620 individuals. The program has been in existence since 1953.
