Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading Program
Teachers receive specialized training in providing multisensory structured language instruction to students in intensive one-one settings, small groups, and core curriculum to enhance instruction for all students. This grant funds 40% of the cost of the one-one tutoring that is an integral part of the course. At least 50 struggling readers in low income schools will receive one on one tutoring by teachers being trained to implement this highly effective methodology. Once teachers learn the methodology in the one on one setting of the course, they continue to implement at high levels within their schools and classrooms, ultimately teaching hundreds of struggling students to read. An outside evaluator found that Mayerson Academy's Orton-Gillingham Multisensory Reading training program resulted in "accelerated rates of reading proficiency among students in kindergarten through Grade 3, relative to expected rates of improvement."
