Education Programs for Students, Youth and Families

The Taft Museum of Art is one of Cincinnati’s enduring cultural icons. Established in 1932, the Taft houses the fine art collection of Charles and Anna Sinton Taft who gave their home and collection to the people of Cincinnati. The Taft strives to be a champion for equitable practices, provide a welcoming and inclusive museum experience, and be accessible to all.

The Dater Foundation’s grant supported educational programs for students, youth and families. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the Taft had to quickly respond to the challenges of delivering programming. During 2019/2020 the Taft’s educational outreach program year, Artists Reaching Classrooms (ARC), reached 12 schools and a total of 200 students. ARC Students completed their final works of art for display in an exhibition just before the COVID-19 crisis arrived in March 2020. The ARC exhibition was moved to the Museum’s Facebook page. The 84 images were placed, along with the students’ artist statements, in an online exhibition,  Artists Reaching Classrooms Final Exhibition 2020. The virtual exhibition reached 4,160 people and had 370 visitor engagements.

As with school programs, youth and family programs were affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. The Taft pivoted its free family program, 3rd Sunday Funday, to a virtual platform. Family Sunday Funday included a focus on one piece from the collection, a live video demonstration and instructions on making a craft. Since March 2020, the weekly Family Sunday Funday online videos have had an average of 430 attendees per video.
