Good Food Belongs to People Not Landfills
Last Mile Food Rescue is a Greater Cincinnati food rescue organization on a mission to save good food and get it to those who need it most. By using the power of volunteers fueled by technology, Last Mile connects Food Donors with nonprofits who serve the region’s food insecure, fighting food waste and helping to end the hunger that’s closest to home.
Last Mile began its pilot program in October of 2020 and launched full scale in March 2021. The Dater Foundation provided vital support to start the program in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the most devastating contributor to food insecurity in decades. As of May 2021, Last Mile already rescued over 500,000 pounds of food, nearly doubling its original one-year goal. The projection is to surpass 1.5 million pounds of food rescued by the end of 2021. Last Mile has rescued good food from 117 food donors and delivered it to 89 non-profits serving the food insecure across the city.
