Special Covid-19 Relief Grant
This grant is one of more than 20 grants that the Dater Foundation made in 2019-20 to previous grant recipient organizations working on the frontlines to provide life saving and life sustaining services to persons most deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Inter Parish Ministry's report for the $50,000 grant made for its basic program included a description of how Covid-19 exacerbated food insecurity in the communities served by the organization … here are excerpts:
When COVID-19 shut down the economy, IPM recognized there would be a tremendous increase in need and worked to continue to serve our neighbors safely and effectively. One of the ways this was accomplished was through collaboration with other providers to help distribute food from our pantry. Overall, there was an increase of 121% in the level of need in 2020 when compared to 2019. IPM served over 9,330 families at its Drive-Through Pantries. The food provided included produce, meat and dairy in addition to non-perishable items and essential personal care products. Additionally, IPM became a Food Access Hub for other agencies who could pick up food from IPM and help distribute it into the community where families live, learn, play and pray. Collaborating with over 31 different schools and agencies, IPM provided access to food for 6791 household grocery visits, as well as more than 11,000 Power Packs.
