Special Covid-19 Relief Grant
This grant is one of more than 20 grants that the Dater Foundation made in 2019-20 to previous grant recipient organizations working on the frontlines to provide life saving and life sustaining services to persons most deeply affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Freestore Foodbank works in partnership with our community to improve lives by eliminating hunger for families in Greater Cincinnati. As COVID-19 hit the region, Freestore Foodbank and its partners were forced to adjust the model of distribution to better meet the needs of local families. Shifting from a choice pantry/shopping model to pre-packaged boxes ensured a touchless, safe delivery process. With the assistance of the Ohio National Guard in packing the boxes, and the generosity of the community, including the Dater Foundation, Freestore Foodbank increased food distributed to the community by 63% in the initial months of the pandemic. During the 2019-2020 fiscal year, Freestore Foodbank provided nearly 6.5 million additional pounds of food assistance compared to the previous year to support the urgent needs of the region. Through mobile distribution events across the tristate region with the help of community partners, this emergency program expanded regional capacity to support the increasing local need.
