First Tee GCNKY Outreach Programs
First Tee - GCNKY’s mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character and instill life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Whether on a course, in a school or in our community, golf is a catalyst to build strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges.
Outreach programming addresses children’s needs for physical activity and social-emotional learning by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices.
To ensure all interested local children can participate in First Tee's impactful programming, particularly those from low-income communities, the organization partners with schools and youth-serving organizations to offer outreach programming. The Dater Foundation's grant supported outreach work in the community, allowing First Tee to provide partners with training, curricula, and equipment at no cost to partners or participating children.
During the pandemic, “Homeschool Golf School” lessons were developed to keep kids active, creative, and learning while at home. Though schools were not able to offer First Tee programming in fall of the 2020-21 school year, First Tee had a great spring and added six new partner schools. As of December 2000, the First Tee School Program is now offered in over 50 elementary schools throughout the community. In addition to the School Program, over 500 additional children were served in local youth organizations.
