Education, Engagement, and Inclusion Programs
ETC is a professional theatre dedicated to producing world and regional premieres of works that often explore compelling social issues. Its mission is fulfilled through stage productions and educational outreach programs that enlighten, enliven, enrich, and inspire our audiences. For more than 35 years, ETC has been an arts anchor in Over-the-Rhine, serving the neighborhood and the broader community. A grant from the Dater Foundation supported ETC’s education, engagement, and inclusion programs. Activities included 522 digital classes with school partners and 29 workshops/events for the community. Classes and workshops transitioned to an online format due to the pandemic, reaching over 6,700 people in 2020-21. Students with autism and other developmental disabilities experienced Shakespeare through the Hunter Heartbeat program and created their own story mashups as Prelude program participants. Meals 4 Monologues auditionees gave $1,500 to Freestore Foodbank and donors watching Expectations of Christmas gave $3,000 to Tender Mercies, both OTR neighbors providing essential community services. Online offerings for the community included a video tour of ETC's historic buildings as part of Ohio Open Doors in September, a chilling interpretation of Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death by Michael Blankenship in October, and the Destination Detour fundraiser in December.
