Crayons to Computers exists to level the playing field in the classroom by ensuring that teachers can provide their students in need with the tools to succeed in school.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Crayons to Computers pivoted time and again to adapt to the shifting landscape. Coming out of the pandemic, Crayons to Computers has determined what distribution model changes (from pivots made during the pandemic) and lessons learned will remain as the organization evolves into Crayons 2.0 ... all working to increase the number of students in its target demographic to be reached through the teacher-shoppers at Crayons. Ambitious plans call for both the Teacher Resource Center to re-open and for online ordering to continue.
Before the pandemic, nearly 20% of children across the region lived below the poverty level. In the city of Cincinnati, 45% of kids live in poverty. More than 150,000 pre-K-12 students across the16-county service area receive government support in their education (either utilizing the USDA’s free and reduced-cost lunch program or receiving state assistance for preschool).
COVID-19 disrupted education for teachers and students alike. But learning must go on! It is clear that students will need basic school supplies and that more students than before
COVID-19 will be in need ... as so many families were affected, and the economic recovery will take time.
A Dater Foundation grant was used to help ensure that Crayons was able to make necessary pivots to provide teachers and their students in need the tools to succeed in school.
