Program Summary:
The mission of Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is to inspire people of all ages to learn more about the world through science; regional history; and educational, engaging and meaningful experiences. Through its collections of more than three million objects and specimens, permanent and temporary exhibitions, and educational programming, CMC fuels curiosity and stimulates lifelong learning. A grant award from the Dater Foundation supported a wide array of programming which complemented exhibits and fueled children’s critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Although the COVID-19 pandemic presented unexpected challenges, such support helped CMC successfully adapt educational programming and develop new and innovative methods for delivering quality museum experiences in a safe and accessible manner. During Union Terminal’s temporary closure in 2020, CMC staff delivered more than 300 hours of educational programming to keep minds active and engaged during periods of isolation. Digital programs included tours of exhibits, interviews with museum curators and STEM professionals, Story Tree Time readings, and Dance Party Friday playlists. Through these innovative, virtual sessions, made available via CMC’s social media platforms, CMC was able to engage larger, more diverse audiences from around the nation.
