Tutor and Scholar Support Program
The mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope (BHGH) is to nurture and guide motivated young people in need to become well-educated, career-ready men and women for others. The goal of BHGH is to break the cycle of generational poverty by offering a stable and loving home, food, clothing, academic support, and guidance to youth in need. The program which the Dater Foundation supported is the Tutor and Scholar Support Program. The program guides scholars through high school and the college preparatory process with tutoring, coaching, and emotional support. Funding supported:
• The Residential College Coordinator
• The Academic Coach
• Academic enrichment tools
• SAT/ACT preparatory resources, including an individual tutor for all three BHGH houses to allow for social distancing
• Intellectual enrichment activities (planning and executing community service opportunities, financial literacy, and job readiness training), and
• College application and college visit expenses
Most of the scholars are the first generation of their family to go to college. By achieving a college education and helping them obtain career skills, they can reach financial stability and break the cycle of poverty that has occurred in their families.
