Beyond the Classroom at Dater Montessori
The mission of Beech Acres Parenting Center (BAPC) is to inspire and equip today's parents, families, and communities to raise capable, caring, contributing children. Serving more than 14,000 children and adults annually, BAPC delivers its critical programming in schools, pediatric offices, and community settings with the overall goal of strengthening children and families. A grant from the Dater Foundation supported the expansion of BAPC’s Beyond the Classroom program, from a student behavioral health program into one that served both students and families with wrap-around services, into Dater Montessori. The expansion added the staff needed to equip Dater Montessori with mental health counseling, peer support, and needs assessments that improved student behavior, promoted family stability, and created a positive school culture. BAPC was able to serve 25% more students in behavioral health and saw a five-fold increase in the numbers of families served in the prior pilot year, serving 348 students and families. Perhaps the most significant achievement of the 2019-2020 school year was the successful transition to a virtual service delivery model during the pandemic. Though school unexpectedly closed in mid-March, BAPC staff quickly pivoted to provide services remotely and adapted well to the challenge.
