Organization Team Support and Field Trip Funding
Adopt A Class (AAC) connects businesses and civic groups as mentors with students in schools with high percentages of poverty. Serving students Pre-K through 8th grade, the program exposes students to a breadth of experiences and careers, while sparking a culture of teamwork among our mentors. Mentors engage with their students one hour, once a month through monthly mentoring visits, educational activities, and field trips with college and career, essential employability skills, and STEM focus areas. In response to COVID-19, Adopt A Class transitioned its program model virtually. Adopt A Class had 190 mentor teams serving over 4,750 students in 33 schools throughout Greater Cincinnati. Sixty teams were from nonprofits and civic groups sponsored by Dater Foundation. Adopt A Class provided virtual programming to mentors, teachers, and students this year with a total of nine curriculum guides - three literacy guides, three STE(A)M guides, and three Essential Employability Skills and College and Career guides. The guides in each category were created with content tailored for a specific grade band - PreK-2nd, 3rd-5th, or 6th-8th. In addition to these educational activities, supplemental virtual resources in the form of 18 read alouds and speaker series videos complemented programming. Finally, AAC connected with partners throughout the Greater Cincinnati community to convene a Virtual Field Trip Expo and to host virtual field trips and other virtual experiences for students.
A Success Story …
A highlight of the Adopt A Class program each year is mentor teams hosting educational field trips for students. Students gain valuable experiences by participating in educational field trips. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, in-person field trips were not an experience available to students this year. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Dater Foundation and with the help of magnificent community partners, Adopt A Class hosted a Virtual Field Trip Expo with over 10 organizations to share virtual field trip opportunities and virtual programming experiences available to mentors, teachers, and students. Over 70 mentors, serving nearly 1,750 students, connected with virtual field trips and with virtual experiences from the Cincinnati Red Hall of Fame and Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center, Cincinnati Zoo, Great Parks of Hamilton County, UC Health, Cincinnati Observatory, iSPACE, the Children’s Theatre of Cincinnati, and many more! Thank you to the Dater Foundation for providing such a meaningful, educational experience for the students of Greater Cincinnati. -- Adopt A Class Foundation
