Summer Student Service Program
Since 1975, People Working Cooperatively (PWC) has been performing comprehensive home repair and modification services for low-income homeowners, helping them remain safe, healthy, and independent in their homes. In 2018, PWC provided 9,100 services, improving over 5,100 homes and the quality of life for nearly 10,000 individuals.
The Summer Student Service Program engages youth in meaningful volunteer experiences that benefit both them and their community. Youth provide important home repair and maintenance services for low-income homeowners while gaining technical and interpersonal skills, important relationships, exposure to urban and rural poverty, and most importantly, a commitment to service that will shape their lives for years to come.
Support from the Dater Foundation assisted PWC in expanding the 2019 Summer Student Service program:
• 237 individual volunteers donated a total of 3,362 hours of service
• 21 student groups completed 27 home projects in 20 households
• 7 community organizations participated
