STEM Programs for Undersserved Students

iSPACE is a 501(c)(3) that provides the Greater Cincinnati community with innovative and effective STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs designed to ignite imaginations and inspire students to pursue STEM careers. Students who attend an iSPACE program BECOME Scientists, Engineers, and other STEM professionals.  Each program is designed to offer challenges that requires students to create solutions and work together to implement them. The support of the Dater Foundation enabled iSPACE to provide subsidized STEM programs to over 4,500 students from low income schools during the 2019-20 school year.  As one excited participant expressed, “Thank you for helping our school go to iSPACE because it was the best experience of my life.  Disney Land can’t even top this."

An iSPACE Success Story from a teacher who brought her class to iSPACE for a program funded by the Dater Foundation.

“iSPACE gave a hands on approach to learning STEM for our students.  The various “jobs” each provide a new level of STEM that our students don’t normally get to have.  Taking our students out of the classroom and into space shows them not only about STEM but great career exposure as well.  I love watching the entire process unfold.  Before we attend the trip, the conversation about the jobs that they will have the ability to “apply” for are often unclear to them.  But, once our students go and see what each person does and what their friend’s role for the day is, it helps them learn about what they think they would like to do!  THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ASPECTS OF iSPACE.  One of the biggest impacts of the program is to my students’ CONFIDENCE!!!!  Sometimes our kids shut down when things get too hard.  They are nervous to make mistakes in front of their peers – but this program helps them to rise to every occasion and be successful as a GROUP!  The staff helps to guide and push students to think outside the box.  They encourage teamwork and help our students learn that they can do things that they may think are “too hard”.  It is a very rewarding lesson as a teacher. I love this field trip and hope that it is available to us again. We greatly appreciate the Charles H. Dater Foundation for helping to make these experiences possible for students in low income schools.”
