Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates

The Jobs for Cincinnati Graduates program (JCG) provides at-risk youth with the educational support and job readiness training necessary to successfully stay in school through graduation and go on to achieve successful, sustainable employment.  The program targets students who are experiencing severe barriers to graduation such as failing academics, poverty, absentee or incarcerated parent (s) or homelessness, and typically, JCG students are 50% more likely to be one or more modal grade levels behind in school, have 26% higher absence rates, and are 36% more likely to have been suspended, expelled, or put on probation.  Through the JCG program, students are enrolled in an in-school, one credit elective class which combines the nationally accredited, Jobs for America's Graduates experiential-based learning model with student enrichment experiences, community service activities, job-shadowing, internships and practical employment training.

The quantitative results for the JCG program for the academic 2018-2019 year are as follows:
942 program participants served (850 predicted) (Including those in our follow up program)
649 students received in school services (550 predicted)
293 students received follow-up 12 month follow-up services (300 predicted)
14 Schools in 3 districts served (14 predicted).
Grade promotion rate for JCG students is not calculated until 9/30 /19 based as part of an official retention report.
93.1% high school graduation rate for JCG students
85.8% of eligible youth transition to positive outcomes (Employment, Enrollment in Higher Education or Military Enlistment)

The recent academic year represented an incredible success in nearly every respect. The biggest news centered on the dramatic expansion of JCG programming offered to Middle School students facilitated by the addition of 4 new programs during the past year. And just as importantly, while students served volume jumped materially vs both the previous year and projected, quality of services provided remained extremely high. The successful expansion coupled with not missing a beat in terms of the core high school program represents an incredible success story. CYC is eager to build off of this new baseline in the upcoming academic year.

Overall results exceeded expectations in terms of number of students served (driven primarily by an expansion in the middle school program) as well as key performance indicators. It is expected that grade promotion will achieve or exceed the stated goal once the data is available.
