Public Allies Apprenticeship Program
Public Allies is a movement committed to creating a more just and equitable society and the diverse leadership to sustain it. Through its signature AmeriCorps Apprenticeship program, diverse, homegrown leaders are connected to local nonprofit and government agencies to help advance their missions. Through Dater funding, Public Allies was able to support five positions with nonprofits that would not otherwise have been able to contribute the full financial investment for an AmeriCorps Public Ally. Organizations that benefitted included Green Umbrella, Jewish Family Service, City of Cincinnati Office of Environment and Sustainability, and Cincy Stories.
The placement of these positions allowed organizations to increase their effectiveness and efficiency through sustainable initiatives. These projects ranged from the creating of a nutrition program, to developing curriculum for youth storytelling workshops, and increasing awareness and utilization of energy efficiency programs. Jointly these positions contributed 6,310 hours to the community, mostly with underserved populations. All of the nonprofit partners benefiting from this grant reported increased effectiveness as shown through program development and delivery, implementation of new systems and business processes, and community awareness and engagement.
